Back To Basics
I worked with DataBasics through my previous employment with Moore Australasia. They were always a reliable support for our Cumulus installation, so when the opportunity to redesign their website came up I was more than happy to help.
On the surface, a website redesign is usually straight forward. You copy the page content, reformat the appearance and you’re done. The DataBasics website was a little different, as it had around 100 pages! After numerous cups of coffee, a few family sized blocks of Cadbury Dairy Milk and many late nights in front of the computer it was complete.
The site is almost all XHTML & CSS3, with a tiny bit of PHP used for the contact form and some jQuery for the rotating banner on the home page and Twitter feed. As DataBasics have in-house HTML skills and didn’t require a CMS, using HTML allowed the site to remain very fast, which is beneficial for the user experience and SEO.
I’m so happy this project came my way. I learned a lot, not only about web design but about the skills required to handle a project of this size.
